Black Love Day February 13th x Valentines Day February 14th
Cynthia Phoenixaudio - India.Aire The Truth
February 13th is Black Love Day, founded in 1993 by Ayo Handy-Kendi as a spiritual alternative to Valentine's Day. Focusing on love: for the Creator, self, family, the Black community, and Black people, promoting peace, unity, and self-love within the African diaspora.
It's a day for 24 hours of demonstrating love through acts of gratitude, self-care, community support, and upliftment.
This year, 2026, I felt the LRD limited series of pocket patches named 'Adinkranehene Dua' is representative of Black Love Day because that symbol represents strong leaders in our communities, families and I was especially thinking of fathers.
Adinkrahene means “King of the Adinkra symbols.” It is a symbol for authority, leadership, and charisma. Dua when combined with other words may represent femininity, beauty, cleanliness, and other positive feminine qualities.
This combination can be interpreted as a symbol representing a powerful and benevolent leader who possesses both strength and positive qualities, or someone who leads under the protection and guidance of the divine.
African cloth stamps, most famously Adinkra stamps from Ghana, are carved blocks used to print / stamp symbolic designs onto fabric, telling stories, proverbs, or representing concepts. I adapted the idea of stamping symbols onto fabric into embroidered and applique' symbol designs onto denim jean pockets.
Here's another LRD limited pocket patch series that displays an Adinkra symbol that could be interpreted as a more romantic or Valentines Day-ish representation of Black Love - 'Osram ne Nsoromma'.

This symbol represents "moon and star". It is a symbol of faithfulness, fondness, harmony, benevolence, love, loyalty and femininity, from the proverb, "Kyekye pe awaree", meaning "The NorthStar loves marriage". She is always in the sky waiting for the return of the moon, her husband.
Displaying your love of our people doesn't have to be limited to the 24 hours of February 13th. Say it out loud....sew, glue or rivet a visual representation of your individuality, passions, beliefs or community onto your jeans, bag, tote, backpack or bucket hat with an LRD pocket patch.
Sewn on makes the 'patch' function just like the back pockets of your jeans. Here is a link to YouTube video 'How To Sew Jeans Back Pockets: Easy Step-by-Step Tutorial' by The Last Stitch. This video is about sewing a jean back pocket with a sewing machine. Jump to Step 2 minutes 1:26 - 1:41 for thread & needle information; starting at minute 2:22 steps 5 - 8 show the machine sewing process.
