"Umoja" is a Swahili word that means "unity".
The "dagi knot", a Pan-African symbol of unity, is found in several African cultures, including Yoruba, Hausa, and Bushongo, indicating its widespread significance across the continent.
The "dagi knot" is often associated with Kwanzaa, a celebration that honors African and African American culture. Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday.
The Kwanzaa principle of "Umoja” is representing the importance of, and to strive for, unity in the family, community, nation, and race.
