Nserewa “Cowries” are an Adinkra symbol of wealth, abundance, affluence; and sanctity and sanctifies when used by priests. In ancient times, cowry shells were used as money, as a means of payment for the exchange of goods and services.
Cowrie shells tend to send unmistakable vibes of Black culture. The small shells have a long and intriguing history in Africa and for the Black community in general. Wearing cowries is more than a fashion trend. It has far-reaching implications that hold cultural meaning.
Leather and Ankara fabric applique on a thrifted jean pocket, with embroidery, free form and sashiko style stitchings.
